Job description

Scismic is supporting the growth of a biotech company in Seattle, WA!

We are seeking a talented Senior Scientist to lead library-based discovery. This role will manage a team of researchers which will collaborate cross-functionally using both diversity-oriented and computationally-designed libraries to develop better CARs, enhanced cytokines, and autonomous control technologies capable of enhancing the efficacy of anticancer cell therapies.  Successful candidates will have extensive hands-on experience with advanced library cloning techniques, as well as phage display, yeast display, or other library-based binder generation methods to select for high affinity and high specificity protein-protein interactions. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated and collaborative leader, who is highly organized and curious, and who possesses excellent communication skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Independently produce and analyze high-complexity DNA libraries (>107 variants)
  • Design strategies and perform high-throughput selections (e.g., phage display, yeast display, mammalian display, and/or mammalian functional screens)
  • Lead a small team (with direct reports) focused on library design and screening
  • Clearly communicate results to the broader team and maintain a detailed electronic lab notebook
  • Independently interpret data, draw appropriate conclusions, and troubleshoot and solve technical and/or scientific problems. Decisions will have cross functional impact
  • Collaborate across functions, with the goal of improving efficacy and safety in cell therapies

REQUIREMENTS

Required Experience:

  • Deep experience with advanced recombinant DNA cloning techniques, such as Gibson Assembly and/or Golden Gate assembly
  • Expertise with library-based display methods (phage, yeast, or mammalian)
  • Experience with isolation and quantification of DNA and RNA, qPCR or ddPCR, and Sanger sequencing analysis
  • Demonstrated mentorship and leadership skills
  • Ability to work efficiently, prioritize workflow, meet deadlines, and work independently and collaboratively among cross-functional teams
  • Ability to work in a dynamic startup environment with changing priorities
  • PhD or MS in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, or a related field

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience creating libraries to modulate specific protein properties, e.g., site-saturation mutagenesis (SSM), site-directed combinatorial mutagenesis
  • Illumina sequencing, including library prep and operating a MiSeq or similar equipment
  • Experience with NGS data analysis using python or R
  • Familiarity with relevant vector design software (e.g., Geneious and/or Benchling)
  • Familiarity with Labcyte Echo liquid handler, Biomek, or similar automation systems
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. If you are legally authorized to work in the United States now, or in the future without any form of sponsorship, we encourage you to apply.
