Scismic is supporting the growth of a biotech incubator in Cambridge, MA.
We are hiring for a new role, Director - Science Operations & Strategy. This role will focus on developing and building out strategic initiatives to increase the chances for success of our resident companies. You will be a strong fit for this role if you have a Master's or PhD in a scientific field with 7+ years of scientific/lab management experience with proven increased leadership and management responsibility within the life sciences and biotech industry. You must be a highly capable, self-directed individual ready to roll up your sleeves and help get a new department off the ground. This person will employ a high level of autonomy in their work, thinking critically about problems within the context of multiple layers of complexity and take the initiative to pursue new ideas.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Strategic partnering & industry analysis
- Intentionally connect with resident company scientists and CSOs to better understand the scientific needs of our residents and the broader community
- Collaboratively work with our company's Partnerships and Lab Operations teams to support existing sponsor relationships and engage with potential new sponsors by strategizing and creating new offerings for residents
- Develop new external relationships with local organizations (e.g., academic tech transfer offices and local scientific core facilities)
- Keep abreast of emerging science and technologies to gain insight and foresight into industry shifts
- Lab design and buildout support
- Use industry insights to strategically conceptualize new lab designs and infrastructure to support novel technologies
- Support buildout projects: lab design, construction support, equipment planning and procurement, and new facility launch activities
- Scientific operational support & management
- Review all incoming new company applications and triage to our company sites as appropriate
- Help to develop a new workflow for incoming company applications through the selection process
- Manage internal scientific core areas and relationships such as animal facility access, etc.
- Other responsibilities as needed and appropriate to support the team and resident community
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Outstanding organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks and/or projects
- High level of proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), and database systems
- Experience with startup or fast-growing organizations in the biotech industry, along with operations and project management
