Scismic is supporting the growth of an mRNA biotech company in Gaithersburg, MD! This is an on-site role; if you currently reside outside the D.C., Maryland, Virginia region and needs relocation, we will provide you relocation assistance.
We are looking for a Molecular Biologist to join our team in the DNA synthesis and RNA production department. The candidate will be part of a team producing numerous preclinical candidate clones using synthetic biology assembly techniques and IVT to produce mRNA. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for developing and optimizing DNA and mRNA production and purification scale-up specifications for technology transfer to internal and external groups.

Responsibilities
- Plan and execute experiments working with the DNA synthesis and RNA production departments
- Design and execute robust laboratory experiments, interpret data, communicate findings, and maintain high-quality records.
- Troubleshoots and solves problems in the design/execution of projects
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and recommendations
- Contribute to scientific discussions and strategic collaborations with academic or industrial partners aimed at advancing our company's technology.
- Maintains knowledge of principles and theories through familiarity with competing technologies and/or products and review of current scientific literature
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Biochemistry, Biology, Molecular Biology, or equivalent scientific discipline with 5+ years’ experience
- Ph.D. with specialization in Biochemistry, Biology, Molecular Biology, or equivalent scientific discipline with 1+ years’ experience post-graduation.
- Background in virology and/or cancer biology
- Industry related experience greatly preferred
- Experience with process scale-up is a plus
- Ability to manage and perform in multiple projects at a time
- Desire to work in a team-first, fast-paced environment, learn new skills, and to efficiently solve problems
- Attention to detail & meticulous record keeping
