Job description

Scismic is supporting the growth of a biotech company pioneering commercial applications of the environmental microbiome.

We are in search of Lab Technicians who are passionate self-starters and will contribute to our domestic expansion and production processes. We are seeking agile team players who are fast learners with relevant experience that are ready to jump in and process customer samples in a caring and timely manner. You will be processing customer samples daily with responsibilities ranging from sample receipt, reagent preparation, sample processing, results delivery, lab operations, inventory management and instrument maintenance. This is an exciting and rare opportunity to become a key player in a cutting edge, fast paced, venture-backed biotech start-up.

We are filling 4 positions for Lab Technician. The shift hours are as follows:

  • 5am-3pm @ 4 days/week

This role will start at 5 days/week, 8.5 hour shifts before transitioning to a 4/10 schedule.


Responsibilities
  • Daily production lab activities including sample receipt, nucleic acid extraction, qPCR, sample status tracking in a LIMS, QC and data analysis
  • Working closely with lab team members in order to deliver customer results in a timely manner while upholding data integrity
  • Keeping a clean and functional lab space, including regular lab maintenance, inventory management and inventory management for day to day operations
  • Maintain an organized and detailed digital lab notebook and database shared by all in the lab
  • Coordinate with vendors for facilities and laboratory equipment maintenance and repairs
  • Communicate with software developers to design and modify requirements to meet lab needs

Qualifications
  • B.S. in biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, biology, or related field
  • 2yr+ Experience with aseptic technique and work experience in an industrial setting
  • Comfortable working in a high-throughput lab with multichannel pipettors, 96 and 384-well plates, and liquid handling robotics
  • A keen aptitude toward laboratory instrumentation such as noticing unusual behaviors, troubleshooting common problems and working with tech support to keep things moving forward
  • Experience with PCR, Real-time PCR is preferred
  • Experience using a LIMS to track sample status and archiving samples for long term storage
  • Attention to detail, record keeping, teamwork and clear communication are keys to success
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a larger team
  • An ability to work a full-time schedule that may include evenings and weekends
