Research Scientist, Cartilage Tissue Engineer

Job description

Scismic is supporting a clinical-stage company that develops revolutionary tissue engineered products for skeletal repair. They are seeking a Research Scientist to support and advance the research and development of one of their cartilage products. The responsibilities include developing research plans, performing experiments, documenting results, and presenting technical findings to the R&D team, management team, and external scientific community. 

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Design and execute experiments for scientific investigation and process optimization to translate cartilage products towards the clinic. 
  • Perform stem cell culture and maintain materials, reagents, and cell bank inventories.
  • Fabricate cartilage tissue grafts with cells and biomaterials and perform 3D culture using bioreactor systems.
  • Work in a highly regulated and collaborative team environment to translate tissue engineered cartilage products.
  • Oversee cross-functional studies.
  • Evolve and grow with the team as the product evolves from pre-clinical to clinical stage. 
  • Organize and present high-quality analytical data at group, department, and cross-functional team meetings.
  • Maintain proper documentation of research results according to good documentation practices. 
  • Participate in project planning, writing study protocol, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and project report.
  • Handle biological materials from animal and human subjects.
  • Perform other job-related duties as required.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in biology, biomedical engineering, and/or related fields with 0-2 years of post-doctoral or industry experience.
  • Excellent mammalian cell/tissue culture and sterile technique required. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with good time management and organization skills.
  • Self-starter with strong work ethic and excellent collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrate creative thinking and troubleshooting skills with critical scientific thinking.
  • Comfortable with working traditional and non-traditional hours.
  • Familiar with data analysis using statistical tools, such as Prism, Excel, and Matlab.
  • Proficient in standard Office programs like Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a cGMP compliant biotech/pharma company is highly desired. 
  • Previous experience with 3D cell culture techniques using bioreactor systems is highly desired.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift 25lbs or more on a regular basis.

Employment Status

  • Full-time; exempt.

Salary

  • $70,000 - $85,000 yearly
